Interesting Whale Facts
1.The Southern right Whale was considered the RIGHT whale to hunt because it is a slow swimmer,floats when dead and produced a high oil yield.
2. From late May til December the Southern right Whale come to our coast to mate and give birth.
3.The female measures between 13 and 18 meters in lenth and way aboat 40 tons.the males are smaller and usually breed from the age of seven years.
4.The Southern Right Whale gives birth to one calf every 2 to 3 year.The lenth is about 6 meters suckle 4 to 8 months and drinks 600 litters of milk contanig 40% fat.
Ohter whales aruond our coast are Humpback whales,Brydes Whales and also Heavisides Dolfhins
Even more spectaculair is the trip on the boat, you see the whales next to the boat.
Behavior
1. Breaching-The whale leaps almost clear out of the water.It might be a form of communicating,disloging of dead skin and parasites or a play.
2. Lobtailing-The whale lift the tail out of the water and repeatedly slaps it downon the surface.It might be a form of communicating.
3. Sailing-The whale spend long times doing head stands.One theory is that the whale use its tail to sail.
4. Spyhopping-The whale lift the head out of the water.may simply allow the whale to have a look at its surroundings.
